Decrease (dec / sc2tog)

How to work it
Work two stitches together so they share one top:
- Insert into the next stitch, pull up a loop.
- Insert into the following stitch, pull up a loop (three loops on hook).
- Yarn over, draw through all three.
The INVISIBLE decrease (amigurumi standard): insert under the front loops only of the next two stitches, then complete as one sc. It counts exactly the same; it just hides better in the fabric.
Other names for the same stitch
- Modern: dec, sc2tog, "work 2 together."
- Antique: "narrow" or "miss one" (skipping a stitch narrows too, but leaves a small gap where a true decrease does not).
Where you'll meet it
Closing spheres, necks and waists, tapering tails. Like increases, placement is the real tool: distributed decreases taper straight, stacked ones bend.
