Double crochet (dc)

How to work it
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over, pull up a loop (three loops on the hook).
- Yarn over, draw through two loops (two remain).
- Yarn over, draw through the last two.
Twice the height of a single crochet. The turning chain for a dc row is usually 3 chains, and many patterns count that chain as the first stitch.
Other names for the same stitch
- Modern US: double crochet (dc).
- UK: treble (tr). The UK/US shift again: a UK "treble" is a US "double."
- Antique US: "D. C.", and in 1910s pattern books often just "d."
Where you'll meet it
Granny squares, lace shells, blankets, garments: most non-amigurumi crochet is built on dc.
