Front loop and back loop (FLO / BLO)
Look at the top of any stitch: two strands make a V lying on its side. The strand nearer you is the FRONT loop; the one behind is the BACK loop. Normally you work under both.
- BLO (back loop only): leaves the front loop free as a visible ridge line on the surface. Repeated every row it makes ribbing.
- FLO (front loop only): leaves the BACK loop free BEHIND the work.
The powerful part: the loop you skipped is still there, and a later round can come back and work into it. That is how amigurumi grows a second layer from the same round: brims, lips, flanges, an open mouth. One round of the fabric carries two layers of future fabric.
Counting
FLO and BLO change nothing about counts: same stitches made, same stitches used. They change where the loop sits and what gets left behind.
